Battle of Sugar Point

After Bugonaygishig reached the island, his American enemy (they numbered nearly 100 soldiers) soon arrived to attempt to arrest the defiant Pillager Chippewa leader. However, Bugonaygishigs warriors bravely defended their leader, by commencing to give battle to their American enemy, soon after they noticed their arrival to the island. In the battle that followed some 23 American soldiers were killed or wounded, by the victorious Pillager Chippewa warriors. This October 5, 1898 battle was the last battle between Native Americans and the army of the United States. What followed after this 1898 battle was intense American efforts to peacefully negotiate with the enraged (they had just had their Reservation opened up to white settlement) Pillager Chippewa's, who probably would have requested of the surrounding western Lake Superior Anishinabek, for their military aid to fight a war against the evil United States.
