Still living in central Oregon and central Washington, the Iron Confederation were about
to play out their final days there as a free people. On March 26, 1856 they resumed their
war against the invading whites by attacking and killing 17 whites, including three American
soldiers. After this massacre the Iron Confederation of this region of Oregon and Washington,
were either captured or fled eastward or to Canada. Many of the Anishinabek who were captured
or surrendered, were executed by the evil whites. Some 24 Anishinabek leaders were rounded up
by the evil whites and executed by being hanged or shot.
