Box Elder, Montana

Located on the western portion of this Ojibway Reservation (parts of Box Elder extend off the reservation), the CDP (Census Designated Place) of Box Elder, can confuse you. Just south of the cdp of Box Elder, is probably what most think is the real Box Elder of this Reservation. However, it is not. According to the 2010 census the cdp of Box Elder has a population of 87. The cdp has a total of 35 housing units with about 3/4 occupied which gives Box Elder an average household size of around 3.3 persons per housing unit. Native Americans including mixed bloods and Mexicans, make up 65% of the cdp's population. Whites make up 34% of the population. Below are several links to photographs including of South Box Elder, of the Anishinabe cdp of Box Elder, Rocky Boy Reservation.
