Wabowden, Misipawistik Reserve


It is located some 72 miles north of Lake Winnipeg. The Ojibwa community of Wabowden, Manitoba has a population of 400 according to the 2021 census. It decreased by 42 between 2016 and 2021. Wabowden has 135 housing units. The average household size is 2.9 persons per housing unit. Learning about the demographics of Wabowden is not easy. According to 2021's census natives (aka Indigenous) make up near half of the population. Non natives a quarter of the population. That would mean about 100 are mixed bloods. Around 25 of the residents still speak corrupted Ojibwa (Cree dialect of Ojibwa Language) at Wabowden. It has died out at Wabowden. The Ojibwa settlement is located along the southern shores of Bowden Lake. White leaders brought Inuit People to the region in the 19th century. Peter Jacobs who was a 19th century Ojibwa author, was upset about that. Wabowden covers 12.3 sq. mi. or 31.78 sq. km.
