Pala Tribe of Cupeno Indians and their Reservation
Cupeno people are Indians of southern California region, who were supposedly rounded up and relocated from Warner Springs, to Pala Reservation in 1903. Below are several links to google earth photos of Pala. Warner Springs was not included with January 5, 1852's Treaty and January 7, 1852's Treaty which created two Reservations adjoining each other. Pala is located in a zone where both Reservations meet. Their Reservation is very large. It covers near 3,500 sq. mi. What happened in 1901 was a forced relocation of most Indians living within boundaries of their Reservations set aside on January 5 and January 7, 1852. Most were forced to relocate to Coachella Valley (Little Shell Valley). It also deals with Montana Ojibway's led by chief Rocky Boy, being forced to relocate to Pala Reservation and other California Reservations. Cupeno People live in extreme southern California and are of Cahuilla in language and culture. Cubas classified Cahillo or Cahuilla, as being Mexican-Opata Language Family (Comanche-Shoshone as he indicated), which today is known as Uto-Aztecan Language Family. It means they are Ojibway. They fought in 1846-1848's Mexican-American War. After losing, Ojibway leaders signed those treaties ceding land and creating their present Reservation which there is a link to a map of below. They didn't want to cede what is now Warner Springs yet Ojibway leaders knew whites would demand it. It's located in California's beautiful Little Rockies Mountain Range. They never ceded their Reservations set aside on January 5 and January 7, 1852. There is no evidence or proof.
