Santa Rosa Indian Reservation


It was established in 1907. Santa Rosa Reservation is located in California's beautiful Little Rockies Mountain Range. Santa Rosa Reservation covers an area of land that is 11,021 acres or 17.2 sq. mi. They are Cahuilla People who are Mexican-Opata or as they are now known Uto-Aztecan. Garcia Cubas listed their language as Comanche-Shoshone or Shoshonean which is Ojibway. Theirs is a small nation. It is made up of four parcels of land. According to 2010's census, population of Santa Rosa Reservation is 71. Indians make up 59 of it's population. Mexican's number 23. Whites number 2. Blacks also number 2. Asians number 1. There are 25 housing units which gives this Reservation a 2.8 persons per housing unit average. Thats according to 2010's census. Using google earth, you can count about 50 housing units. Their population may be a bit larger than 71. If 40 or 45 of their housing units are presently lived in, their population is closer to 125. Toro Peak is located within one of four parcels that make up their Reservations land base. It's elevation is 8,471 feet above sea level. Their small community is located on a small plateau surrounded by mountains. It's elevation is over 4,600 feet above sea level. They have winters at Santa Rosa Reservation. Pine to Palms Highway runs through their nation and leads to Little Shell Valley or Coachella Valley. Little Shell Valley or Coachella Valley, is 8 miles to their northeast. Their real reservation was created on January 5 and January 7 of 1852 and is yet legitimate.
