It was supposedly established in 1876 for Cahuilla and Chemehuevi People. However, American's are being deceitful. Torres-Martinez Reservation is actually a part of very large Reservations created on January 5 and January 7, 1852. Two treaties were signed that created these extensive Reservations. Below is a link to a map of this large Reservation and to google earth photos of four of Torres-Martinez Reservation communities. Those communities are Martinez, Torres, Lopez and Oasis. Martinez is their most important community. Oasis is actually located near Salton Sea and is a mobile home park. Oasis CDP (census designated place) is located at much of Torres-Martinez Reservation. A large part of Oasis CDP is located just south of Martinez by a little over 1/2 a mile. Oasis CDP has a population of 4,468 and has a land area of 19.6 square miles. Mexicans make up 95.8% of the population of Oasis CDP. Photos of Oasis are from D & D Oasis Mobile Home Park which is within Oasis CDP as are Lopez and Martinez. Torres is located 3 miles slightly northwest of Oasis CDP. All four communities have elevations below sea level. These people are Mexican-Opata or as they are now known Uto-Aztecan. Their language is a dialect of that language family (Mexican-Opata then Uto-Aztecan). They fought in 1846-1848's Mexican-American War. Ojibwa leaders ceded most of California between 1851 and 1852, by signing 18 treaties American historians claim were lost. They are being deceitful. After signing those 18 treaties, 11,665 sq. mi. or 7,466,000 acres was set aside to be Reservations. That's why American's are being dishonest. In 1901, a judge illegally ruled they did not own this Reservation created on January 5 and January 7, 1852. They forced most Indians to relocate away from their Reservation. However, Torres-Martinez Reservation is yet within their Reservations created on January 5 and January 7, 1852. Torres-Martinez Reservation covers far more than 24,800 acres. This Reservation covers well over 3,000 sq. mi. According to 2020's population or a later estimate, Torres-Martinez Reservation has a population of 3,288. Their population is decreasing. Mexicans make up 3,070 of the population. Mixed bloods 1,812. Native Americans 135. Whites 232. Asians 41. Blacks 20. Population problem is over their Mexican population conspiracy. However, the Native American population is within the Mexican population. These people are Shoshonean Ojibwa's. During 18th and 19th centuries, large numbers of Ojibwa People, other native tribes and Blacks migrated to California and what is now Mexico. Many settled throughout Coachella Valley (Little Shell Valley) yet most took kindly to the Los Angeles region. Torres-Martinez Reservation is a checkerboard pattern Reservation. Obtaining demographics is very difficult for that reason.
