Chippewa Indians Saugeen First Nation & History
This band of chippewa indians live on the east coast of lake huron, not to far from owen sound, ontario. Their tribal history includes many wars fought against the invading whites, and many of their ancestors fleeing to far northern ontario to escape from the white threat. Their ancestors signed the 1923 williams treaty which ceded their land and established their saugeen first nation or reserve. Their total enrolled band population is over 159. The 159 census is for those living on reserve. The size of their reserve is 5,900 hectares or 14,579 acres.
